Let me clarify -
>From BMI's website -
"BMI pays for music used in promotional announcements aired on the ABC, CBS,
Fox and NBC television networks. Payments are calculated based upon the time
of day of the performance, and the rate of payment varies from quarter to
quarter depending upon the number of promotional announcements aired in a
given quarter. At this time, no payment is made for promotional
announcements on any other medium."
So, to correct my statement. BMI, my PRO, does not pay for promo
performances on Scripps Networks.

>(Promos generate NO performance royalties.)
Hi Chris -- please be mindful of using blanket statements that are simply
not
true in most contexts.
Promos generate considerable performance royalties at ASCAP. In a more
limited context, certain promotional music earns royalties at BMI as well,
such as
company logos.
Further, promos of one definition or another generate performance income in
most foreign territories -- and a multi-national campaign or logo is hardly
unique in the world.
Best,
Mark Holden
