The question is, will it eat you up for the rest of your life if you
sell the rights? Or not? Can you live with it? Is it worth the credit
or money or whatever? Will your kids starve and your wife/husband/
domestic partner leave you?
I wonder if the old question of "selling out" is kind of loaded - for
some projects I think I would feel ok, and for others, I would not.
Let's not be too uptight here - we all need to eat, and we all need
artistic satisfaction. Balance the two and see what comes out for any
given project. If it is a low budget indie film that isn't going to
pay you much, don't do it - If you are going to sell your rights, it
should be to people who will appreciate what you are giving up, or at
least have an audience large enough that you can feel appreciated
somehow.
Just a few musing thoughts, not advice, really.
