I wasn't quite sure how to answer Chris' earlier email to me, but I
think you have highlighted some of the points Dana.
My neice, who is a fantastic opera singer..... but can't find the faith
to make the leap........ is now working for an agency booking singers.
I talk to her about singers rights, she scoffs.
'They love it'
'They don't do it for the money'
'We wont book them if they want their rights'
Sound familiar?
The problem with composers working for salaries etc without rights is
very simple, it continues to undo the thin glue which sticks us all
together.
Sure, some may get 401k's.......... but how about those who are made to
give up their mech rights and 75% of the writers share..........
usually thro ignorance.
Where is the community?
Or is it screw you Jack, I'm ok?
Frankly, it doesn't bother me since I have my 'rights'.
But the actions of others are beggining to effect me............. :-(
How many gave up a right yesterday? Own up !
