Assuming you are using the OS X mail program on your mac, go to the  
Mail Menu, Accounts, Mailbox Behaviors tab and make sure "Erase  
copies of sent messages when" is set to Never.

Web mail systems like yahoo do not  save your sent mail when it is  
sent from a program like Apple Mail. You have to make sure that you  
set your mail program to save your messages. Also, it helps if you  
set a retention period for the mail server (on the advanced tab:   
"remove a copy from the server after retrieving a message: After one  
week"
