Just to belabour my points to Chris and further my pessimism of the
entire process.
While it has been noted some broadcasters 'follow the rules' I wonder
how many of you good fellow composers out there who do send in your cue
sheets know whether they are used or not?
My ELR research indicated no matter what the production company etc
sent to ASCAP, the cue sheet they invariable used to pay out was the
one submitted by the Network broadcaster.
MAYBE in many instances it agrees with the one submitted by the
composer etc, but what happens in syndication where movies are
shortened etc.......... what cue sheet rules then?
How do you know?
Do composers get paid for music which is not aired, or perhaps
shortened?

out 2 mins of the 'product' and 2 mins of commercials are slotted in..
how does 'your' cue sheet work then?
What happens when these same cue sheets are sent overseas where in some
countries there are no commercial slots etc and tv shows have different
timings, even commercial tv in the EU etc has different timings to the
USA..... more to the point, how come you don't get paid part of the
SYNC fee when a show is sold overseas and is transferred from one
system/one language to another........ there are $$'s involved ;-)
Product placement is going to be a huge part of programming in the
future as 'the normal commercial' wanes in popularity.............. how
many of you are claiming DOUBLE pay when your cue is used to do twice
the work, support the scene and the product?
Don't kiss this off with artistic 'assistance' it is the $bottom line$
of composers which will suffer if product placement doesn't garner
extra $$'s.
