Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
Universal Pictures Film Music plays a critical role in the production  
and marketing of Universal's movies, overseeing every musical element  
of the studio's film properties. The department supervises all  
creative and business aspects of music production, working with top- 
tier composers (John Williams, Randy Newman) and recording artists  
(Eminem, Jack Johnson) to create the timeless, award-winning  
soundtracks to such films as Jaws, Brokeback Mountain, 8 Mile and  
Schindler's List.

Job Purpose: The Director, Business Affairs in Film Music for  
Universal Pictures works with the Senior Vice President of Music  
Business Affairs and is responsible for negotiating, documenting and  
finalizing all music-related agreements and licenses for the studio's  
motion pictures.

Job Responsibilities:
# Negotiate and draft composer, songwriter, recording artist, music  
supervisor, and soundtrack album agreements and certificates of  
authorship and recording.
# Review and approve and, when necessary, negotiating and drafting  
master use and synchronization licenses for exploitation of third  
party music.
# Negotiate and draft licensing agreements for soundtrack album use.
# Prepare royalty summaries for record companies' payment of  
royalties in connection with the studio's soundtrack album releases.
# Counsel music staff, marketing department, distribution, home  
video, features business affairs and legal personnel on pertinent  
business and legal issues relating to music.
# Applicant will work closely with the head of music business affairs  
for the studio in a fast-paced, demanding environment and will be  
responsible for music rights clearance in all forms for the motion  
picture group.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
# Minimum 3 years at an entertainment company or entertainment law  
firm with a business and legal background.
# JD degree required

Eligibility Requirements:
# Interested candidates must submit a resume/EMS online in order to

# Must be willing to submit to a drug test and background investigation.
# Must be willing to work at the location in Universal City.
# Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
