One thing for sure is that institutional corruption has been a problem throughout all of known history. Apathy and acquiescence makes it worse. What to do? This may seem simplistic but it seems for practical purposes change only takes place as a result of force.
The American (British) system has the virtue of providing legal remedies bringing governmental force to bear, through one branch of government or the other.
As some of you know I quit the Musician's Union; I didn't see any realistic road to change. The problems with ASCAP et al. seem to be even more insidious. I would definitely explore the possibility of a lawsuit, maybe with support of a politician. It could be a class action or not. Key is that harm to the member is tangible and proveable.
I just don't think people can be persuaded -- they have to be forced. My 2 cents.
