"I just lost a score I wanted to do *very* badly. I've worked with the director in the past - scoring a short and two other indie features for him."
OUCH... this is a tragic story!! I'm really sorry to hear that, my heart totally goes out to you. I don't know where you are at in your career, but in terms of my building career composing for film, and being in Toronto (similar kind of thing - it ain't New York/LA) I kind of bank on the relationships I am building with the up-and-comers - the team that makes it to the top together. It's a bit of day-dream to be sure, and that kind of story really makes you rethink that little fantasy, doesn't it? I know of one person who was doing exceptionally well in a producer's program here, and she's a big fan of my music. But she was told unequivocally that if she wants to retain a budget and get investors for her film, they would need to see NAMES on her production list. Taking a chance on an unkown - though she knows I can do the work - means she stands little chance of getting funding to produce her film. She suggested that whoever she hired could bring me on board as
co-composer - I had to laugh at that one! Sweet thought, but not a chance in the 7th level of Hades a 'name' would agree to that!!
