EMI, Jamba Strike Pan-European Mobile Music Licensing Pact

EMI Music has now finalized a licensing pact with Jamba, a deal that will
cover master ringtones, music videos, and OTA downloads throughout Europe.
German-based Jamba, which also does business as Jamster, is an off-deck
giant that operates in more than 30 countries. Mobile users can now grab the
EMI assets using a number of transfer methods, including SMS text messaging,
WAP-based purchasing, or the internet. Users in Germany can also grab
full-track, OTA downloads, part of a recently launched Jamba Music offering.

Jamba Music offers a-la-carte and subscription-based downloads, a structure
that fits into a larger sales model for the company. Other major labels are
already on board, and the service is likely to spread to other countries.
The full-track initiative is part of an early-stage mobile music market, one
that is being propelled by increased sales of music-focused devices. "More
and more consumers are using their phones to listen to music, or using music
to personalize their mobile phone," said Jean-Francois Cecillon, chairman
and CEO of EMI Music Continental Europe. "This deal is a cornerstone in our
European mobile strategy, and demonstrates our commitment to this fast
moving sector." The partnership includes approximately 250,000 full songs
from EMI, and also covers the Middle East and Africa.
