Hi Pete,

I didn't realize you were operating under a pseudonym.

With respect, what your email states is you are in fact, and with the
greatest respect, part of the problem.
Surely the reason for copyright and 'royalties' is to protect all
future income, upfront money should not be what the deal is all about.

The reason why composers are treated so badly is because of the 'one
off' deals.
No Solidarity.. and I would have thought this was a word and an action
you would know well.

There is no doubt DVD sales and download sales have 'value', but how do
you propose to make sure ALL composers get involved in similar due
income in years to come?
By what process do you honestly think those who own the rights to the
product you are involved with will tell you if the DVD is released in
e.g. India?
How will you know when the product is uploaded from Mexico City or
Dubai [where your rights are not protected] then downloaded in Outer
Mongolia?
I seriously doubt you will and your contract will not insure income.

Does you contract cover income if the DVD is 'imported'?
A ruse often used in the good old drug driven disco days to deny income
for artists e.g. LP's pressed in Germany of US product which was then
imported to the USA.

Is a download an 'import' ????

Without some Gov intervention those who own the rights to the majority
of product, which will be available, have seen a way to snare and
retain all of the future income streams.
Only LAW will insure a potential income stream for composers...........
then try to prove a sale, then try to get the money.
It make take a few years, but mark my words well, we are so screwed.

The PRO's are not willing to help it would appear since the Publishers
who run them have seen fit to insure the eventual demise of these orgs.
