So the moral is.... 3 cents on the dollar is better than no cents on the
dollar? Even though the broadcaster license agreements make no differential
between types of performances when comes to paying license fees?
Sorry, but to me that's just too defeatist.
The composer industry has been in retreat for so long, it can't seem to
imagine any other way to be. This way of thinking asks the people who write
over 50% of the music on television to be grateful for their 97% penalty,
because gee, it might be a 100% penalty in the alternative.
But as long as composers are willing to accept that kind of "back of the
bus" treatment from the songwriters and their PROs, things won't get any
better.
