No, the moral of the story is that the usage of our
music is worth different amounts to different
organizations.
It's worth a lot to Advertisers when used in
commercials. It's not worth a lot to Broadcasters when
it's used in commercials. So, Advertisers pay a lot
for music in commercials, Broadcasters don't.
It's worth a lot to Broadcasters when used in shows
that they broadcast to attract an audience. They
attract an audience so they can charge ad time to
Advertisers (see above).
It's not THAT complicated. Nobody is a back-of-the-bus
victim here. Stop insulting everyone who was ever
racially discriminated by comparing them to a composer
who gets $15,000 for 30 seconds of music, or a
publisher who gets $255,000 for the USE of a 40 year
old song.
