Surely the question must be why?

Mr Hoyt made it clear some time ago ASCAP's Achilles heel was it's
weighting formula........... why would a broadcaster want to pay
$1.00 for a 'time slot' if ASCAP [et al] only pay $0.03 for it???

Now think this through with.... does a broadcaster pay 1-1 or not?

The truth of the matter is the negotiations obviously do not deal
with time or slots but more with 'what shows do 'you' have on
TV'........... I wonder if it is even % of airtime......... how would
we know !!

Kid yourself NOT......... negotiations are based on 'big time' folk,
not what music actually covers most of the airtime..... the $$'s go
to those whom have possibly less time......... but is time the issue?

I wonder how this would work if the negotiations were based around
what CPA music do you have Mr PRO??

PRO's are on for a beating as time goes by.
Hoyt suggested he was not going to pay SESAC the same rate for music
they had on air during news time since they did not pay it as much as
other music............ is this perchance the reason for a change of
heart at SESAC re CPA??
They are not so bound up with old fashion emotional business methods.

In the meantime.. how about this.

Each minute of music is worth $X... this is the same for all PRO's
in the USA.
The PRO's then have to prove to the broadcaster what they actually
have on air, send them a bill for X number minutes at X rate... we
would all then see how good they are !

Ha !

Now we'd see some real competition.

Can you imagine the loss of hair, not to say staff !
