The dangerous part of this kind of reasoning is that the true is same for
any top film score.
I'll say it again - for any performing rights society to take over 50% of
the performances on TV and deem them worthless (or all but worthless) sets a
very dangerous precedent.
Societies deeming them worthless, and then granting a blanket license that
permits the performances for free, thus preventing the writers from going
after license fees themselves, is nothing short of sanctioning free music
performances by hugely profitable companies (broadcasters) and insulating
those hugely profitable companies from any legal action from the members of
the society.
Strange, but I thought free music performances were something societies were
in the business of preventing, not encouraging and providing legal
protection for!
Absolutely amazing.
