ASCAP says the circulation of Playback is 60,000 which includes
subscriptions to broadcasters, agents, attorneys, managers, licensees, and
of course selected writers and publishers. Assuming 20% go to non-members,
that leaves 48,000 to members. Assuming the overall percentage holds true
and 2/3rds are writers, that would mean 31,680 writer members receive the
magazine. I'd almost guess less than that since I'll bet a greater
percentage of the publisher members earn domestic royalties. I am also
assuming here that they only send the magazine to voting members.

My guess: perhaps 20,000-25,000 voting writer members, and we can only guess
how many actually vote, since those facts, like most ASCAP election numbers,
are kept secret by the high command at ASCAP.

Without transparency, there can be no accountability. A slogan for us, a
safety blanket for them...
