[Fmpro] gigastudio4/ GVI4

Hmm I am using many libraries but mostly the Vienna Symphonic Library, full
pro edition, which was only made for use with GigaStudio. As it is still
very expensive to upgrade to their Vienna Instruments, its not on the table
for me at this time. Hopefully sometime relatively soon, but I am for now
stuck with the older version. How do you run Vienna Instruments without
Giga? I don't quite understand how you do that, is it its own sampler engine
now? Or are you using another sampler engine like Kontakt or Halion or
something?
My setup started as gigastudio 160 v2.5
It was pretty klunky, with lots of quirks like having to wait 3 minutes
after xp loaded to start GS and having to wait 30 minutes for a performance
to load... But hey VSL was so awesome
Then I upgraded to giga 3 orchestra
And a nightmare ensued, working with more then 2g of ram impossible but my
comp had 4 gigs. All of my .gsv files would crash when loading, the only
option was to rebuild ALL my gsv files by hand. Tascam support was not only
non-responsive, but they were downright nasty and just said it was my fault
for not backing up my nearly terabite of samples before I used the tool in
GS3 to "upgrade samples to GS3 format". That's the beginning, there are many
other problems and it's a lot more complex but AGH I really have never
recovered from that experience. And still today I have crashes with GS3 at
least 1 or 2 a week. Probably because I had to use that hack freeware tool
to manually configure my RAM adresses, but who knows, tascam sure doesn't
care.
So my hope and excitement are that GS4 and a 64 bit OS MIGHT make all my
problems go away and that my giga setup will become stable and it will erase
probably 30-40% of my daily life stress involving my work... I have my
fingers crossed but it seems just too easy for it to all get better
miraculously =(
