The internet certainly affords possibilities for new and improved solutions to the chronic concerns of artistic talent.  The best solutions for the future will be market solutions, not union type anti-market solutions.  While there was a time and place for unionism -- for example 100 years ago when many industrialized workers had little education, poor English skills and few government protections (remember Lochner v. NY) -- today is a different world, a world where unions are increasingly anachronistic.  In addition, they appear to be losing the support of the public.
