I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a
*convincing* (...and "convincing" is the KEY WORD here)
mock-up is going to take *more* skill than just a written score.
*************************************************
I will say Amen to that. Another fact that needs to be taken in consideration is that scores today and for quite sometime now aren't only composed with orchestral elements. There is a great deal of synths, rhythmic andsounds elements which play a big role in many scores.Several of today's films, even studio films, althoughcarrying a sizeable budget are released with scoresentirely made with synth generated samples, even the orchestral ones. And for that, yes all orchestral partsspecially strings have to be extremelly convincing. From ramps, to rolls, no room for cheesy stuff. We are in a world where besides great pen and papercomposing and inspirational skills, one will gain aconsiderable edge towards the competition if he/shehas the knowledge of what has become an art form on it'sown. And the more living and experimenting with realmusicians, (which by the way will never be replaced by mock ups) the better the mock up will be...
