Mr. Williams has plenty clue! Never said that anybody that writes 
orchestral scores without mock-ups doesn't.

There's several different talents happening...

You can be a great composer, but suck at orchestrating
You can be a great orchestrator, but not a good composer

To do a convincing mock up, you're going to have to be both of the 
above, plus have considerable computer/playing chops as well.

Doesn't mean the worlds greatest mock up guy is any better at composing 
or orchestrating that Mr. Williams.


Buncha years ago the college here brought Mr. Williams in to do a guest 
conductor bit with the orchestra. Except for the concert, the "suits" at 
the college took up so much of his time (showing him off to the society 
folks) that he never got to talk to the music students that would have 
greatly benefited from his wisdom.

A few of my musician friends and myself ran into him at a cocktail "meet 
and greet" before the concert, and just when he looked like he was about 
to actually enjoy a conversation with some other musicians, the "suits" 
pulled him away again to meet yet some other society snob. You should 
have seen the pained look in his face as he unwillingly walked away.

I do have an autographed programs around here somewhere though...
