[Fmpro] James Newton Howard

The information I have is that he was too busy. Same issue with Mark Isham a
few years ago. Might explain why the ASCAP Board is so afraid of their
attendance records being seen by the membership. How convenient for them
that they remain secret. It's also interesting that ASCAP didn't announce
Newton Howard's resignation.
Sadly, without a strong score composer presence on the board, we can expect
the same kind of massive discrimination against score music and those who
write it as we've seen for so many years now. The songwriters rule the board
and they will keep their "perks" in place no matter what - it's their
mission, after all.
Seems our leaders are more concerned about themselves than their industry -
it's the same mercenary attitude that has prevented composers from doing
much in recent years. I wish I had a solution, but the overall lack of
interest in performing rights royalties among composers doesn't bode well
for any reforms. It's as if most composers have just given up and resigned
themselves to the valuation of their music as "second class" by the
songwriters. Sad.
Best,
Mark Northam
