Hey Mark,
Hope you didn't get me wrong. I'm all FOR the SubmitDIRECT system
and hope composers will find more innovative ways to promote their music. My
concern was whether FMN's system would also let them upload their credits.
Your reply indicates it will - and that's great. Having that info online will
be significant to certain job posters. I know other music jobs don't care as
much about credits. My query referred to film submissions. Yea, it's always
going to be necessary for composers to serve as their own best "agent" - even
AFTER they've signed with a music manager or entertainment lawyer. Ya still
gotta get out of the studio some times to schmooze those old contacts and
meet prospective clients. Marketing one's self /services must be an ongoing
process for anyone in business.
I know there's a shortage of agents compared to composers. I tried my
best to change that fact, to my utter disappointment and broken heart. After
working as a composer's asst. for several years, I moved into LA and joined
an agency with the hopes of becoming trained as an agent. My dream was to one
day represent the composer - orchestrator I believed in the most as well as
other music creators. I worked faithfully toward that goal for many years
but it turned out no one but me believed in my dreams and unfortunately, I
couldn't fulfill them all by myself. I learned firsthand how the film music biz
can crush one's spirit. During the last few years, I applied many times at
other agencies but guess God had different plans for my life. I still hope my
music pals will get the career opportunities they desire. I do whatever I can
to assist/support their efforts. I know you share the same wishes for our
creative comrades. I hope the SubmitDIRECT service will help them better
accomplish their goals.
Bettie
