Les, you're assuming that Doug doesn't have the data.
I wouldn't make such an assumption. In fact, I assume the opposite - that
Doug has lots and lots of data he either can't or won't share with us. I
have no doubt that the ASCAP Board knows quite a bit about the elections and
the voting results, and Doug himself told me that he knew the number of
voting members but couldn't share that with me.
It would appear that the regime at ASCAP really has a lock on the Board and
has severely restricted the Board from honoring the patently false ASCAP
promises of transparency. This of course makes a mockery of those promises,
and liars out of those at ASCAP who make the promises.
I think we now have ample evidence to demonstrate that at ASCAP,
"transparency" and "accountability" are little more than cheap sales slogans
designed to pacify and impress the uninformed. Marilyn and LoFrumento seem
like the way those words sound when they say them, but are utterly unwilling
to back those words up with action in many important aspects. And why should
they? Members certainly aren't holding them accountable, so they might as
well keep mouthing the words.
But when it comes to the important details, they are anything but
transparent or accountable. In fact, they go out of their way to be exactly
the opposite.. Board members working in secret and afraid to reveal to
members even the most basic data about their activities on the board, afraid
to reveal very basic information about the breakdown of royalty
distributions by genre or performance type, etc etc as we've discussed for a
long time here on the FMPRO list (PRO in the name stands for professional,
by the way).
Best,
Mark Northam
