In the case of the violas writing the melody, you
might have a problem. I would say the violas are
co-writers for writing the melody. You have to have
all hired musicians sign a release saying they are NOT
co-writers and they are musicians for hire.
Particularly if they contribute a melody.
In the case of packaged loops, I don't think anyone is
getting their melody from a loop (a phrase at most).
And, the loop CD will already have an agreement on the
package stating that the author is free to use the
content. So, you're protected there.
