Hi Pete et al, PRO's must skim money or they couldn't pay advances
etc etc.
The Ex CEO of PRS, John Hutchinson always claimed ASCAPS operating
costs were more like 25%...... how would we know?
Let's get real.
Every single member of every PRO on the planet [who doesn't have a
'deal'] is conned out of money, period.
It is very important to come to terms with the fact, as we are
learning at PRS, the entire PRO set up from negotiations to
distribution is a fallacy, a farce, a lie, humbug,smoke n mirrors and
all built on a house of cards.
I'm not going to lambast ASCAP since in this instance they really are
all 'in it together'....... but take for instance the alleged
movement of money from Local TV income to Network distribution, at
ASCAP...... Local guys lose money........ then when Network show is
sold to syndication on Local TV, music aired on Network gets a bump
via local distribution..... local only composers get it in the shorts
again.
Where is any of this notated?
Years ago on the PHO lIst 'distribution' was the topic and Dean Kaye
an ASCAP Board member went on about their surveys and accuracy etc etc.
We had 'words' on the list.
I suggested there be a rate per min of music aired, US PRO's should
have to prove which titles of their catalog had aired and they would
claim the money from the broadcasters.
He had a fit.
I paraphrase....... 'that would equate the value of BMI music to
ASCAP' he said.
Think about that for a moment or two.
Two co-writers, one in BMI, one in ASCAP........... different value
[s]..... why?
[be careful one and all the brainwashing doesn't surface]
By all accounts BMI has more music on air than ASCAP these days.. can
anyone say MIKE POST!
I could go on, but MN has already pointed out many of the foibles,
however and as per previous post... how does anyone on this list know
they are entitled to their share of the 33% of the gross NOT PAID to
them for broadcast mechanicals, via their PRO statement?
The publisher[s] wont tell you.
GROSS AMOUNT AT SOURCE
Here;s a challenge to all.
Please tell me what the figures are for the negotiated dollar amounts
for CBS e.g. 2005, based on what?
What music was actually on air in 2005 [which was not part of the
negotiation], how was distribution for what was actually on air in
2005 effected by the negotiations for 2005.
Think about it, do you know?
If not, you are in a $$ vacuum.
Remember the broadcasters pay @ 1-1... don't they?
