[Fmpro] 10% Wholesale (!) Royalty on Compositions on a CD? Ripoff?

Hi,

Someone I know from work, who actually does make significant money marketing
CDs and books to local organizations (churches, schools, etc) wants to put out
a CD of my original instrumental tunes.

I've already recorded these, paid players (well) in a buyout, and produced
the recordings. (Did the copying, too, of course.)

The contract this acquaintance has given me (something she bought in a
collection of publishing and record co. contracts) calls for the writer to get 10%
of wholesale for each CD sold.

Seems like the last I heard, the going rate was more like 10% of retail.

I know enough about music contracts to figure out where the other bad parts
of the contract are, but am I right about retail? Thanks

Seth Wittner
