Well, there you have it folks.  Lynne, in her own words, will never listen
to Jeff, who is a career professional film composer agent who often lectures
on this and other subjects about film music and the industry, because she
has better things to do. 

Lynne, have you ever even wondered what caused the U.S. Government to haul
the PROs before a court and issue a Consent Decree?  Have you read the first
and second judgements? Do you have an understanding of the amount of money
coming in to a PRO for TV programming and how that money goes back out (or
not) to the composers of the music most performed on TV? Are there more
songs on TV than underscore minutes?  Is the value of a song always greater
in a dramtic TV show than underscore? Do sponsors give more money to a hit
TV show that "might" have a song in it, or are they giving money to the hit
dramatic show because it is a hit dramatic show. (made dramatic by what
ingredients?)  There is a ton of information out there about these issues.
You should have a sense of this before stating that others here are not up
to your level of expertise.  That's beyond laughable. 

I happen to like ASCAP.  ASCAP has been very good to me in many respects (my
several hit TV series domestically and worldwide), but has seriously dropped
the ball in others (i.e. They're about 2,000 movie campaigns behind in
catching my performances on air... As far back as little movies like The
Matrix, Last Samurai, Titanic, Forrest Gump, Aladdin, Braveheart and Star
Wars that apparently had no TV advertising ;-)).   ASCAP has been very good
to deal with on behalf of the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra and other clients
I have.  I do note that ASCAP has begun a PR campaign about the issue of
payments, so that will be interesting to watch.

Some of us are simply looking for stronger representation for underscore
composers on the Board, others are tilting at windmills. All have something
to say that is grounded on fact and their personal experience with their
PRO.    BTW, this is NOT just an ASCAP issue.

You came into this room not realizing it was a largely a group of
professionals, some happy and some bitter, but all way WAY more educated and
informed than you about the subject.

There is a lot you can learn by listening to "real" professionals. 

Your apology is accepted in advance.  I'm sure you would be welcome to read,
rather than lecture. 

By the way, it's okay to admit you're looking for clients. Actually, it is a
good marketing idea for a beginner to farm for clients via newsgroups and
bulletin boards, but you have to have something to offer -- and grounded
knowledge and a sense of the playing field is a good place to start.
