[Fmpro] AFM on webcasting rates

Or..................because 75% of small-time webcasters are supporting indie music
of which most are not members of SoundExchange, the grounds are ripe for
major boycott of SE artists. That falls in line with the "FU" movement from the new order to the
old school. Not surprising, with all the meetings that I have with upstart labels, I say
"SoundExchange" and they say "who"?
As for the direct licensing, it's being done right now. A simple e-mail to all the labels
that says (in effect), "If you're a SE member, sorry, we can't play/promote your music unless you sign this".
How fast do you think it gets signed? Of course we'll have to see how long it will be before
SE decides to pull rank on members who sign.
Let's face it, 10x's more "fresh" music being released without SE attachments mean more power
is really going to go to the "little guy" webcaster for being the "Davey vs. Goliath".

But thanks to the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, small webcasters have 2
choices, and 2 choices only: Accept the SoundExchange "deal", or do
individual direct license deals with each and every record company whose
material you want to play. Impractical for most.
