[Fmpro] are loops ok to use?

Thank you for your compliments Les! I really appreciate it, and yes I do use
computers, and samples galore. I have over a terabite of samples ranging
from the Vienna symphonic library to hip hop samples from a small library.
But never any loops ever. If I write a loop based song I have a strong
enough ethic and desire for creative control to write the actual loop and
then use it. Maybe I am just crazy and wasting time that I could be
releasing stuff? But I write everything on score paper first, perform it on
the keyboard and computer using sampled sounds 2nd, compile the performance
into finale for making parts 3rd, and when it is possible live musicians
play it 4th. Maybe I am just unrealistic tho but I sure hope not
Chris

I learned from one of the early 'users'........... Giorgio Moroder.
Very often had the drum loop on 1/4" running.
As an old session pro, I could also argue that some idiot who turns
up and gives musicians a bunch of chords to then 'come up with a
groove' is not a composer either... how about the hummers and whistlers?
C'mon Chris........... I've heard your music, and it is very good,
but you use computers !
Surely no self respecting 'composer' would use anything but a quill
pen and parchment paper ;-)
A recent blow out at PRS was emnotionally based on the fact a
'composer' wrote music which [one must assume] was turned into and
used as loops which were then repeated over night..... generating a
LOT of money for the composer.
'Composers' in the UK complained............ not one said they
wouldn't write the music for a film if the employer wanted
'loops'.... no matter what loops.
It is emotion which prevents US composers from being paid in the USA
in a fair and equal manner since the Pres of ASCAP continues with the
'quality' argument wherein song is 'best'........... are songwriters
bad if they repeat lyrics?
