Allow me to add these few words to the mix.? Years ago I had a song (yes, a song) recorded by Trini Lopez.? In an effort to get it played I called and visited a couple of radio stations in the Fort Lauderdale area.? Unfortunately, Trini found a buxom blonde and disappeared for the entire time of the promotion = failed record.? However, during one of the meetings at a radio station I spoke with the manager about?ASCAP etc.? It wasn't his favorite subject.? He told me ASCAP worked out his listening figures plus his wattage and sent him an invoice. I remember him saying, 'To stay in business I had to write them a damn check.'? No mention of what music they played or for how long, just pay up or turn off.
The above backs up what Hoyt told us AACO attendees many moons ago.? The one thing the broadcasters don't want to do is pay, and if ASCAP keeps fooling with them we'll be listening to uncopyrighted Chinese music, probably this time, instead of Mr. Jobim.
