Hi FMPro list composers/musicians et al.
PLEASE note the following from PPL [UK] if you have music on air in
the EU, as a non featured performer.
Also note, current payment of this type of royalty is being made via
Sound Exchange for Featured Performers and the AFofM for non featured
performers [NFP] in the USA....... so far AFM has declared it will
not pay musicians who did not record via a US contract.......
hmmmmm... all those Elton recordings, etc etc
Now NFP it would appear are not to be paid via France !
Hey, you guys in the EU.. how are we to be paid for the Donna Summer
recordings etc????
How about NFP money form Canada.. where does that go?
It may well be 'public performance' does not mean performance via the
airwaves, but !!
Les
PPL and ADAMI have agreed a reciprocal deal which ensures that
featured performers in both countries will now receive their due
public performance revenues.
The deal means that performers get backdated monies and is an
important landmark as it recognises the importance of equitable
remuneration and the resulting increase of cross-border flow of
revenues for artists throughout Europe as well as enhancing the value
of music and its importance both culturally and economically.
The UK and France represent respectively the two largest territories
in the world that collect public performance income. Latest figures
published by IFPI show that PPL collects $142.1m of Performance
Rights whilst in France the total stands at $89.6m.
"This is a very significant moment for featured performers of both
countries," said Fran Nevrkla, Chairman & CEO, PPL and VPL.
"Increasingly in today's music market, enabled by ever-expanding
technology, music made in one country gets played all around the
world and it is critical that musicians and performers get paid as
their music gets played globally."
