Hi there,
I just returned from my PRO (Moscow, Russia) with some
news that are important for anyone whose music is
performed in Russian cinema theatres. Need advice from
experienced fighters.

Up to the moment, Russian cinema theatres pay RAO
(Russian PRO) 3% of income. It was not so long ago
that they began to make these payments and there is
yet a lot of struggle, including courts. But about 80%
of theatres pay. Nevertheless recently they decide to
change this situation. The governement decision about
these payments was made long ago and only last years
it became real fact. So, the theatres' arguments are:
it does not fit modern situation, it is too much,
because really they have to pay about 7% of their
share.

Can anybody tell me about, maybe, European laws? I
mean, what percentage is real, what can we struggle
for?

We have a lot of American films in theatres, and
though the amount of screens is not so big as in USA,
it is a real money. For example, the film which I
wrote music recently makes about 200-250 k$ for
weekend, or about 2000$ for one screen.

We will have a meeting in our PRO in December,
including authors from all regions. I'm going to be
there. I would like to define which "hot" questions
can I ask our authors' council. For example, can
someone defense our interests in parliament? Can we
support some candidate at elections? etc.
I think, the main question is how can we struggle for
our rights (concerning especially film music)?

I would be grateful if somebody can share any ideas.
The world is changing and we have some common
interests all around this world.
