Thanks, Mark, for details.
Really I'm not on the top of this, if you mean my
participation. I'm not a lawyer. I just want to
address some questions to our local representatives
and maybe make some noise, talking with other
composers. We have the same problems here - poor
representation of film composers in PRO's author
council and weakness or lack of interest of official
composer organizations. Plus the market is small and
still not steady.
So I'm just trying to define some problems that can be
discussed. For example, I would like to know more
about mechanism of collecting TV royalties. What
percentage of their advertisement income do TV
companies pay and why? Comparing to other countries
etc. What about downloads?
What I can not understand - who defines what is good
for author and what is not? For example, if we would
have, say, some comittee in some international
organization, for example, UNESCO. And this comittee
could give some recommendations which other countries
could rely on in their author laws. Just as they give
recommendations on architecture treasures. It would be
logical, I suppose. But I did not hear about something
like this.
In current situation PRO can just refer to some
precedents. And most of us are too busy in attempts to
build our creative careers and to feed our families.
So we give the initiative to PRO and it can be not so
good, you know.
So again, if somebody can give more ideas about
questions that I can ask my PRO, please do.
Thanks,
Lev
