<<Would you feel just as concerned if a music library had normal sync fees but
paid no portion of those to the composer? If so, you've probably just
indicted about 30-40% of the entire library industry.>>
That's exactly my point, which maybe I haven't articulated very well.? If the end result is that a composer gives music to a library but receives no portion of the sync fee, that's a bad deal. If you did a work for hire deal and as a result you get only your share of perf income, that's a horse of a different color.?? But to see FMN accepting advertising from an entity that doesn't pay composers their share of a sync fee is what strikes me as wrong and selling out for a couple advertising $$.
<<By accepting advertising, we no more
endorse a product or service than a newspaper endorses the quality of the
product/service of an advertiser, whether it be a used car ad, "personals"
ad, or a regular display advertiser.>>
I disagree completely. A newspaper isn't acting as an advocate on behalf of anyone, the way that FMN is, whether it's through this list or through education or through offering seminars and educational resources for its members.? FMN's efforts are very focused on one thing: film music and the composers who create it.
<<Most music libraries we've talked to are very reluctant to publicly disclose
their deals>>
Of course they are! Wouldn't you be if you were them?? But you don't need their consent to include them in a list of "here're the biz models for several high-profile libraries."? You could easily cull this information from members of FMN, probably even by soliciting that info from members of this list.

I'm selling out? Uh-oh....
Would you feel just as concerned if a music library had normal sync fees but
paid no portion of those to the composer? If so, you've probably just
indicted about 30-40% of the entire library industry.

We don't endorse them. We accept their advertising - big difference. The
same argument could be made by US musicians saying "why do we endorse the
Bulgarian film orchestra" because we accept advertising from them.
For that matter, we also accept advertising from Sony and their CineScore
soundtrack-creating software product. By accepting advertising, we no more
endorse a product or service than a newspaper endorses the quality of the
product/service of an advertiser, whether it be a used car ad, "personals"
ad, or a regular display advertiser.

It's actually in the works, scheduled for completion at the end of the year.
Most music libraries we've talked to are very reluctant to publicly disclose
their deals, and many libraries have different deals depending on the market
clout of the composer they're doing the deal with, so a public listing of
libraries and their deal types is unlikely. However, a directory of music
libraries with as much info as we can gather and they will provide is what
we're working on.

That could be said for several important topics on this list :-)
