Hmmmmmmmm seems you have all got you knickers in a twist...........
over what?
American printers ripped off European 'publishers' centuries ago
until some time later American publishers realized they were then
being ripped by the Europeans......... hence copyright law.........
which is now a joke.
I came to the USA as a 'scab' musician... all the disco b/s from
those days at Casablanca............ made a fortune, also made a
decision to 'join in'.
Joined the union with a 6 month work permit, they then went on strike
for 5 months....... never did see any legit work.
Guys........... it's over, the world is your workplace and the high
days of the studio musician is diminishing.
Do I like it, no.
Is it inevitable... sure thing.
Someone posted about composition the other day.
Get real............... many of the 'best' composers in film today
are whistlers and hummers........ many never 'write' a note......
many simply farm the stuff out.......... and many use
'tools'............
WHO CARES?
Only we do.
Yes there will be the devoted producers who will want 'their' score
and a real orch.... great stuff.
BUT, if individuality was the watchword there would be no Library
Companies.
NEVER knock the quality of the product of another.......... there are
musicians in Europe who can run rings round the US guys and vise
versa.......... at the end of the day it is the mighty $$ which speaks.
You all should be going nuts about how you are to be paid in the
future for all of your efforts instead of pissing and moaning about
work going overseas........... it's already going overseas and the
moment 'the producers' feel they can get what they want from Indian
composers or Chinese composers.. kiss your butt goodbye.
I live in a wonderful serene place up a mountain where Koreans are
buying up the land and about to build Temples also correctional
facilities for Korean kids...........all the signs in the area for
them are in Korean, not a word in English......... notice, not in
their back yard, but my 'front yard'........
think the world isn't changing.... think again.
