[Fmpro] The Great Scab Debate

Another thought or two: the financing of US movies is now global. French
banks were a source of funding for many years, followed by German
pension schemes more recently. So it's hardly surprising that production
and particularly the more mobile post-production are also being
globalised. There are good and bad sides to this.

Something worth chewing on also is the dumping practiced by US TV
production companies. Somewhere like Czech Republic (or in fact any
country that only counts a dozen or so million people) finds it almost
impossible to produce TV series, as the American ones are being sold at
car-boot prices with built-in pre-marketing. They cater to a far vaster
audience, have far greater budgets and can be picked up cheap. So the
channels go for the easy option.

The globalisation debate is very complex.
