I have a feeling that this email should perhaps be filed under
"stupid questions," but here goes.
Is it possible for Logic to sync to HDTV?
I've just been given the QT file for a short film in HDTV. Rate is
59.94 (I realize that it's "field" rate for HD instead of "frame"
rate). I'm working in Logic Pro 7, and I can't get this thing to sync
at all reliably at 29.97, both drop and non-drop. I'd expect maybe--
maybe--I would be able to see the "real" frame rate in the film's
window, and then see Logic's last two numbers as half the film's. But
this drifts significantly as the film runs--Logic creeps ahead of the
film to the tune of several frames per minute. If I just pick up and
go to a random point in the film, sometimes it syncs, sometimes it
doesn't (and if it doesn't, it's way off). If I let it play from the
random point for a while, the drift happens again.
So, I was given another copy of the film at 29.97drop, but with the
same timecode as the 59.94 version (odd-numbered frames removed), and
that has the exact same problems.
Am I doing something wrong here, or was this rendered in a such a way
as to make it unusable for me? How do you solve a problem like HDTV?
Please contact me off-list, unless anyone else is interested in the
answer.
Many, many, many thanks -
Susan
