[Fmpro] The Composer Uprising

Marinho, I can't believe what you just wrote. It is so disappointing
and hurtful. And I thought you were my friend...!

When you told me months ago that the best thing I can do in order
to get into this business was to afford sexual favors to producers
and directors, and that is how you got your IMDB credits, I trusted
and believed you. I guess I was young and inexperienced.
Now I read that you actually got paid to compose!!??
What kind of a fake are you? I thought we had something going here...!

Since I followed your advice my career has catapulted me into Hollywood
high-society: my phone doesn't stop ringing. I have been signed on to
major
projects. Film execs are passing my name from one person to another.
It's incredible. I don't need a website, I don't even need business
cards anymore.

Remember we used to complain that no one responds to our emails, calls
back or shows up to meetings? Well now THEY call ME from London, LA,
Berlin, Tokyo, you name it, and let me know 3 days in advance that
they're coming
to town and that they want to see me and talk about their new multi
million $ production.

This business is hard? You can say that again! Hard as a rock. I say
we can either
starve or do what it takes! Everybody knows it's a dirty business and
sometimes you have
to sacrifice a good shirt (although, I really liked that dark blue
Banana Republic one...
I don't know what that Universal guy was eating on the Air France
flight from Paris.)

But that's a different story.

Yes, so my music has been lately criticized for being simplistic and
superficial.
Well, it's easy to judge. I want to see all these composers writing
90 minutes of
symphonic music while they're on their knees, blindfolded.
Thank god for precedences like the main theme from Jaws...when you're
cuffed
behind your back, wearing leather, you can't play much more than
repeating minor
seconds. By just moving your pelvis, I mean.

There's a whole world to explore in film music, and you're missing
out. I hope you
change your ways, my friend. We aren't getting younger and Apple is
coming out
with G6s soon. You just need to to it for a while, make a name for
yourself and then quit.
Trust me, in the dark you wouldn't know the difference between
Gorfain and Schwartz.

p.s. A small piece of advice - change all your XLRs to 1/4 inch.
You'll still be
balanced, and they're much less painful. You'll thank me one
day...There's one XLR
I still can't locate. I'm sure it will pop up one day.
