[Fmpro] test

Their software is not a DAW it is a Virtual Instrument, which is more
like a mini sample engine than any DAW. It has no sequencer or
timeline. So think of a VI as a little gigastudio that works as a
plugin but has samples inside it

So its not the sound card that is the worry, but the DAW. Is the
Vienna Instruments VI compatible with RTAS (ProTools LE plugin format)
would be the question

And no you dont need any sound card other than the MBOX2. The MBOX is
3 things:

a firewire sound card with 2 channels of analog in (TRS, Direct in TS,
and XLR), S/PDIF in/out (stereo digital), 2 analog outs (TRS)

a midi interface with a single MIDI in and out

and DAW software (ProTools LE)

ProTools wouldnt be my choice for doing MIDI sequencing on, but it is
the best for audio tracking, mixing and mastering. And the MIDI isnt
too hateful these days, just not on par with Digital Performer or
Cubase or Logic

ProTools LE plugin format is RTAS and any plugin or virtual instrument
that will work as RTAS will work with your mbox/protools le

wait.... after reading the VSL site some, they have created their own
DAW that you can download if you are a registered user, so you could
even toss ProTools LE if you wanted to (tho i would not suggest it)

Copied from their site:

You can use Vienna Instruments on your PC or Mac in three ways:

    1. As a plug-in in our host and mixing software Vienna Ensemble
(or another stand-alone host application)
    2. As a plug-in in your sequencer (e.g., Cubase, Logic, Digital
Performer, Pro Tools etc.)
    3. As a simple stand-alone application.

I would strongly recommend using option 2! But you should be safe with
your RTAS ProTools LE from what they write ;-)
