Well, it is DRM only in the sense that the contract you would sign with
the one person who was honored to spend the $50,000 on your masterpiece
would specify that copying of the file in any format is not allowed.
Probably the contract would be a bit more lenient than that, but only
one person would own the high resolution master and copies would be
inferior unless digitally duplicated. A full quality digital duplicate
would be a felony. A 44.1 copy would be a misdemeanor, .mp3 would
perhaps be allowed.

This would do two things:

1. Raise the perception of value of a work of musical art
2. increase consumer anticipation for the date when the work of art
would or might be publically released
3. allow the artist to profit from his/her work
4. allow the public to eventually distribute the work for free once it
is sold for the initial purchase price.
5. Put the power back in the hands of the musician.

Example: I the great composer announce my newest work. You have heard my
previous works. If you are interested in hearing the work, you may place
an initial bid for the right to hear and purchase my new work. After
placing your bids, those that are qualifying (based on a yet to be
established formula), will be allowed to come into my studio for a
private listening at standard CD quality. The highest initial bidder own
the music unless he or she is outbid after the private listening
sessions have been completed. To increase interest, I am authorizing the
release of a 30 second clip of the music so that you may have a taste of
the value that an original digitally signed master copy of this piece
will have in your personal collection.

Thank you very much,

The Composer.

 - Joel
