[Fmpro] advice needed regarding record interest

Hi Pete,
Don't know if I responded to this since I've been so busy.  Thanks for the
advice; I registered today with ASCAP as both writer and publisher.
Couldn't find the damned county clerk though - what's up with that???  Their
phone numbers are all disconnected.  I want to file a DBA and continue the
process.  Open a back account for the publishing company after getting the
official DBA certification and then officially copyrighting the songs under
that publishing company.  Where's my county clerk!!!?  LOL

Are you sure they are a "Record Company"? Sounds more
like a "Music Library" or "Music Licensing Company".
The 30 and 60 second "soundclips" are probably to
pitch to commmercials (radio and TV).

You should register your publishing company with ASCAP
as well as registering yourself as a writer. Come up
with three company names and submit them to ASCAP (or
BMI). They'll approve one. For the "Record Company",
I'd just say you're in the middle of setting up your
Publishing Company and the name is pending ASCAP
approval.

As far as pressing 1500 copies of your CD, that's not
what a "publisher" usually does. But, who knows what
kind of deal they are proposing at this point.
