I agree Marinho! But what about a young rapper who writes passable rap
lyrics and drags and drops some premade loop samples in acid or garage
band or fruity loops and then records his rap on it. does he deserve
the same thing that you, a guy that has his life invested in complex
excellence, who has trained in the greatest institutions and worked
with great minds? Does he deserve to even be called a composer? When
is art not art?
I believe all souls are equal. 100%. From a wino on the street to
Queen Elizabeth.
I believe all minds are not equal.
To be a composer, to me, implies being an intellectual.
Being a scholar not just of the physical, but of the spiritual and
emotional.
Being a composer is grappling with issues that average people are too
afraid to confront.
It is being a seeker of truth and a bastion of ideology.
And we use all that sensitivity and acumen and wrap it up into music.
Music (like all true art forms) which is the catalyst of change for
all people whether they are cognizant of it or not. We indeed are the
wind that shapes the world and we need to remember that and not lose
sight of the ideals while we fight to pursue making enough money to
live life reasonably while we perform our mission in this short life
