[Fmpro] the fuggin volume

Hi JohnB,

I think the progression towards always louder is a tactic to get noticed on the radio. If you can master your stuff to blast out of the speakers when your song comes on, maybe people will be shocked into immediately purchasing your wares. Then, the professional standard was ASSUMED to mean that louder = better = quality, partly by necessity (don't just stand there... everyone's jumping off the bridge!) and because were sheep (don't just stand there... everyone's jumping off the bridge!). I suppose it's only natural - you put on your demo in a playlist with contemporary rock/pop mixed/mastered stuff, it's a little disconcerting to hear all the power and volume drop out, so you go to your guy and say (I mean shout, or scream), make me sound like THIS!

Volume: There are a lot pros here - may I ask why this is happening? I mean,
what purpose is being served? / Speaking of volume, it has always seemed to
me that, while otherwise fine, Varese Sarabande's soundtrack catalogue has
been recorded too low. - JohnB
