     It has been this was as long as I can remember (or have been  
aware) -- the adverts are always +3dB over program.  Yes, that's  
twice as loud.  Huh?  [louder] I SAID, THAT'S TWICE AS LOUD!  Oh,  
yeah, please stop shouting.

     It's why you jump out of your skin after a quiet program scene  
cut to commercial, and scramble for the Mute button.  Radio is no  
exception, and indeed set the standard for this annoyance decades  
ago...   But, as Les stated, it's the way those with the gold want  
it, and has nothing to do with "louder is better".

     I tend toward listener supported stations.  No Adverts, and thus  
no volume adjustment necessary.
