Hello Mark,

Would you be so kind as to elaborate a little regarding the way ASCAP
discriminates against instrumental music? Since I'm new to the forum-
perhaps you might just mention a thing or two. Thank you-
~Robert

Hi Ted -

If you have (or will have) music on television or film other than on local
TV stations where direct licensing for the performing right (between you and
the station) is possible, I can't imagine why you would not be a member of a
PRO. For non-local TV usages (such as cable, network, and all foreign
usages), there's literally no other way (they allow you) to receive writers
royalties from broadcasts of your music on television and exhibition in
films.

As you know, I've got some major problems with the way ASCAP discriminates
against instrumental music, but like it or not, they and the other PROs
around the world have their little cabal very nicely set up to lock writers
into using them (unlike publishers).

Your thoughts?
