Firstly, put your name, somewhere in the filename of any digital files.

Always put your contact info in the ID3 tags, when creating mp3 files.  That
way, if you've sent the music editor mp3 files, at least they may have a
chance of finding you from their music library, if they keep it in Winamp or
iTunes.

If you've sent them a CD, make sure the information is registered with
Gracenote.  I found this blog entry, which looks like it contains good
instructions on how to do that.

Obviously, one key is following up with folks.  But doing these two things
above, will at least help tie your name to the music.
