[Fmpro] ASCAP bashing

Mark,

I hope my message about ASCAP bashing isn¹t taken wrongly. I absolutely
believe that something needs to be done about the injustices you¹ve so often
enumerated and discussed on this list. I do think that other subjects need
to find their way here as well and lately there have been many interesting
shop-talk posts.

As to what can be done about ASCAP I believe that the discussion needs to
move beyond the limits of this list and into trade publications, newspapers,
media and as many other public outlets as possible, not to mention the legal
forum, if indeed there are legal issues to consider.

While I agree that new list members need to be acquainted with the issues a
constant reiteration of the facts won¹t serve to change the status quo.
Perhaps new members can be referred to an FAQ or a permanent posting
elsewhere for that purpose. I do think that if there is the prospect of
creating some union or guild, which was discussed some time ago, such issues
do truly need to be shared here.

But pounding a hammer on a nail when what you need is a wrecking ball to
bring down the building is probably not the most efficient route.

Can you suggest some actions we may be able to take as individuals to begin
chipping away at the Goliath? Maybe in small ways we can all have a
significant incremental impact.
