[Fmpro] Bill of Rights for Songwriters & Composers

I think the objections to ASCAP policy have nothing to do with this
Bill of Rights. I signed it and I am glad I did. The rights presented
there are good for us, absolutely. It addresses issues of the world
vs. music creators, it does not address issues of ascap vs. music
creators.

Keep in mind guys that Mark and Les and I think all the naysayers on
the list never suggest that ASCAP isn't necessary or that life without
it would be better. But they are people that see beyond the wagging
tails of eagerness to be a member of something and into the stark
reality of what is right and wrong.

I think it is beyond ridiculous that some music gets paid more than
other music, and only in the US. Its like having to make a law that
says what is art and what isnt art. Art is in the eye of the beholder,
or the ear as it may be. So if we can't ever say what is art and what
isn't art to anyone other than ourselves, how can ascap claim what is
good music, worthy of top dollar, and what is just *yawn* that
complicated orchestral stuff. All the issues that Mark has bullet
point listed over and over on this list are all very good and very
valid points

So lets support ASCAP but find a way to make them be more fair to us
also. Being the underdog squad in the underdog company of the underdog
legion of the underdog army of the underdog nation is a tough place to
be in. But face what is wrong and don't ignore it and pretend life is
peachy when that peach has a few worms in it ;-)
