Here is another petition by the AFL/CIO (which the AFM is part of). I
thought to pass along the email sent to me:

Dear CHRISTOPHER KENNEDY ALPIAR,

AFM members performing in orchestras, theaters, motion pictures,
jingles, and many other areas receive wages and pension and health
care contributions as a result of their right to join a union that
collectively bargains on their behalf.

Many other musicians would organize if the process was less
contentious. Instead, the exercising of one's right to organize in
the workplace has become subject to numerous legal challenges that
stall, and often defeat, the opportunity for musicians' to gain union
representation and achieve tangible gains in their working lives.

The Employee Free Choice Act, supported by a bipartisan coalition in
Congress, would level the playing field for musicians. It would
eliminate many of the roadblocks that currently impede musicians and
would allow them to have greater access to a process that would
provide them with fair representation in the workplace.

In response, the AFL-CIO has asked workers across the United States to
support the Act by signing a petition that will be delivered to
policymakers on Capitol Hill. Your support will greatly enhance this
drive for real and immediate change. Recent research has shown that
some 60 million U.S. workers would join a union if they could. Please
consider this opportunity to help those workers, many of whom are
musicians, exercise their right to join a union.
