Kiki and Fernando,
The Sanskrit texts of the dialog between Shiva and Devi (and other 5000 year old works) have been found by some modern quantum physics experimenters/writers to mirror many of their modern findings; as the words when translated into English, resemble the test models and final explanations for phenomenon found in the laboratory. Particles when split seem to do things that the observer can influence by simply observing.
The most ancient and complex musical instrument the "sitar" was created by humans to play "ragas" that are prayers, invocations and communications between humans and the gods of the Hindu pantheon.
It takes a lifetime to master the skill of the sitar and the hindu language would help but we "western musicians" are happy with the Greek Modes as models.
Remember that each mode (according to Hesiod 8th cent. B.C.) were attributed to Mnemosyne "Memory" & Zeus. Garfurius wrote Practica musice (pub. 1496 in Milan) the Music of the Spheres in which:
The Classical conjoint Dorian-Phrygian tetrachord (A-minor scale) the notes follow.
A (Proslambanomenos-Hypodorian) Clio
B (Hypate hypaton-Hypphrygian) Caliope
C (Parhypate hypaton-Hypolydian) Terpsicore
D (Lichanos hypaton-Dorian) Melpomene
E (Hypate meson-Phrygian) Eratho
F (Parhypate meson-Lydian) Euterpe
G (Lichanos meson-Myxolydian) Polihymnia
Octave (Mese-Hypomixolydian) Urania
Also, if I am not boring you, each of these was represented by a muse (names to the right and above) and each had its own planet and metal attributed to it (and much more....)
When I write my music I try to remember these things, as each mode will evoke the emotions in the listener that is part of the vibration of the music. None of this is new age, and you try writing this on drugs, the Greek kills me much less the Latin.
Sometimes we forget where our music began and our own worries stop us from knowing that we are inspired by the history we stand on top of and that we can inspire others as well. We have a gift to share, we hope that the world will help us to make a living while doing it. Namaste
