[Fmpro] ASCAP Publisher as Individual Ownership/Sole Proprietorship

I'm taking the plunge and (finally) registering with ASCAP as a
publisher. I (again, finally) have enough work going on that I'm
beginning to lose income because I'm registered only as a writer.
Unless it's of general interest to the list (and my guess is that it
probably is), could someone please contact me off-list about joining
ASCAP as a Publisher as an Individual/Sole Proprietorship?
Specifically, is incorporation necessary, or just advised? I've heard
horror stories of individuals doing dba's in NY state, so I probably
won't take that route.
BTW, on an almost entirely unrelated note, I've been in the process
of dealing with SAG after gaining eligibility to join*, and am
marveling at their collective bargaining power. Would that we had
that. In the meantime, I continue to strike what little blows I can
for the cause by educating the filmmakers with whom I work on how
business *should* be conducted. I've lost a few gigs as a result, but
I figure anyone that isn't playing by the best of rules isn't worth
playing with at all. I've yet to lose anything that I've later
regretted losing.

*"Almost entirely unrelated" because I gained eligibility by
appearing in a series of web films for an ad firm I'd done some
composing work for. It's interesting to note where some gigs will
lead you.
